This educational group uses data and statistics based on the Dallas county Health and Human Services to see the needs of our demographic. There has been an increase of STD cases in the 15-24 age range which is the age range of young adults we aim to educate and serve. Our program, The Talk, promotes age appropriate sexual health to educate young adults so that they remain safe, secure, and healthy.
The sexual health component is categorized into subsections that parents can opt to their child included in. The sections are as follows:
Identity – With the progression of time, there are more problems that young adults face when it comes to self-identifying. The changes they experience can leave some questioning where they belong. We have trained professionals willing to help in areas such as LGBTQIA and gender studies.
Contraceptives– One of our main defenses against sexually transmitted diseases is the use of contraceptives. Students and parents will have training on effective use, side effects, and having conversations about them.
Teen Pregnancy – When discussing sexual health, there has to be a portion about what comes with the act. Rather than scare students on the topic, we want to inform on the realities associated with pregnancy. This course covers the expenses that go along with a child, bodily changes, and options.
STI/STD – Our students have to know about the consequences that come with the action of having intercourse. They need to understand how STDs are spread and how to protect themselves.
Our trainings start out by teaching our students what it means to be in a meaningful and respectful relationship before going into further details of what comes with a title.
